HRDF Updates

To increase access to learning and development opportunities and to maximize the use of HRDF funds, the Learning Development Committee (HRDF) has introduced two changes.

The Human Resources Development Fund provides eligible support staff with funding for professional development and personal wellness courses. The oversight of the Fund is carried out by the Learning and Development Committee (HRDF). The Terms of Reference for the committee are established in the Collective Agreement (Appendix G, Common). One of the Committee’s goals is to increase access to learning and development opportunities and to maximize the use of HRDF funds. Therefore, the committee has introduced the following changes:

1. Funding Periods

The number of funding terms will change to a 4 period cycle commencing April 1, 2011. This will provide a more even distribution of funds throughout the year and create more windows of opportunity for employees to apply for funding for learning opportunities.

The 4 period schedule will be:

 Period 1
 Period 2
 Period 3
 Period 4
Apr, May, June
 (Applications open March 1)
July, Aug, Sept
 (Applications open June 1)
Oct, Nov, Dec
 (Applications open Sept 1)
Jan, Feb, March
 (Applications open Dec 1)
2. Travel coverage

Effective April 1, 2011, support for travel/transportation expenses incurred to attend learning activities will be reduced to 50%. This will allow funding to be available to a larger number of employees, giving more people the ability to access funds directly related to learning and development.

For further information, please see the HRDF website and manual on the HRDF website.
