Immigration News

Academic Services (Immigration) would like to update you on a new requirement for renewal of permanent resident cards and offer advice about visitors from India and China.

New Requirement for Renewal of Permanent Resident Cards

Immigration has expanded the list of documents that must be submitted with applications for renewal of permanent resident cards.

In addition to other supporting documents, applicants must also provide a copy of one of the following:
  • Income Tax assessments issued by Canada Revenue Agency for each of the past five (5) years, or
  • transcripts from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada verifying attendance for each of the past five (5) years, or
  • for all school-aged children, written records verifying attendance for each of the past five (5) years.
Visitors from India and China

India and China do not participate in any formal immigration exchange programs such as Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP) and International Experience Canada (IEC). If an intended visitor from China or India is not eligible to enter Canada under one of the Labour Market exempt categories such as Visiting Professor, Self-Funded Researcher, Research Award Recipient or Business Visitor, a Labour Market Opinion may be required.
