Payroll & Benefit Services would like to update you about pay dates for December, pay schedules for 2015, CPP and EI deductions, tax changes for 2015 and remind you about the upcoming lump sum payment for Support Staff.
Effective January 1, 2015, the fee charged to departments for an off-cycle payment will increase to $125 per payment. This fee applies to a payment requested by a department before the next regular cycle which occurs outside of the normal on-cycle semi-monthly or monthly pay schedule. The fee is not charged in cases where Human Resource Services is required to process off-cycle payments for normal business processes ( e.g., terminations, severances).

The objective of government funded summer student employment programs is to support the creation of temporary jobs for full time students to provide work experiences. These opportunities provide benefits to both students and communities. There are three student employment opportunities available for students in 2015.
If an employee is moving from a support staff position into an academic position or vice versa, Human Resource Services recommends that you begin the new appointment on either the 1st or the 16th of the month if possible. This timing aligns with the semi-monthly pay period and helps to ensure a smooth transition. Support and academic positions have different benefit and pension plans and switching an employee outside of a pay period creates challenges and unneeded work to reconcile the different plans. Please note this recommendation applies to both internal and external transfers to your department. Thank you for your cooperation. Full-time Faculty or full-time CAST members who teach additional courses on top of their regular responsibilities must be paid for the overload teaching as a salary supplement instead of creating a separate CAST contract. The salary supplement must be used regardless of whether or not the overload teaching occurs in their home department. For your reference, the pay "code" on the PAF for overload teaching is 175 (Sal Supp - Additional Teaching). Please note that this does not apply to Special Registrations.
