Changes to General Illness and Medical Leave Effective November 2, 2015

Effective November 2, 2015, Organizational Health and Effectiveness (OHE), Human Resource Services will be making changes to how we support you through an absence due to illness or injury. We are pleased to welcome Homewood Health Inc. (HHI) as our partner in providing you with an enhanced level of service. HHI’s team of professional Health Support Consultants and medical experts will provide expertise and access to information and resources, timely service and medical confidentiality. This complements OHE’s expertise in Return to Work and Accommodation planning and support.

Changes to Offer of Employment (IMM 5802) Process

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) recently announced changes to the processing of the Offer of Employment to a Foreign National Exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment, currently known as the IMM 5802.

Alberta Personal Tax Rate Changes – Effective October 1, 2015

Five new personal tax brackets were implemented on October 1, 2015 which may result in an increase to income tax deducted for employees with taxable income higher than $125,000 annually. The new rates will be reflected starting the October 31, 2015 pay.

Name Change: Job and Organizational Design

As a result of an internal reorganization, Compensation, Job Design and Recruitment is now called Job and Organizational Design. The unit will continue to provide services including: job and organizational design, job evaluation, external market and survey data synthesis, centralized job postings and recall/recruitment services, Interim Staffing Solutions, and relocation services. Celebration of Service Letters

The Celebration of Service will be held on November 27, 2015 to recognize all University of Alberta Faculty and Staff who have service dates reflecting 25, 30, 35, 40 or 45 years of service within the 2015 calendar year. Please note that this year’s honorees may include retirees, individuals on leave or individuals whose positions have been disrupted. Our list may also include anyone who was inadvertently missed from the celebration last year. Letters listing this year’s honorees will be sent to departments in the coming weeks. If you have questions about the list of names on your letter, please inquire with Sarah Flower at 780-492-2249

Faculty and Staff Orientation

We will be inviting new employees to attend the Faculty and Staff Orientation on November 17, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All faculty and staff who have not attended orientation in the past are welcome to participate.
