Changes to Offer of Employment (IMM 5802) Process

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) recently announced changes to the processing of the Offer of Employment to a Foreign National Exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment, currently known as the IMM 5802.

On October 26th, CIC is introducing the Employer Portal. Immigration Services, University of Alberta will be required to submit offers of employment, Labour Market Exempt, using CIC’s new system.

Foreign nationals who have, or will receive their signed IMM5802 prior to October 26 must be advised that they should apply for their work permit immediately. After November 21, CIC will not process work permits applications under the International Mobility Program unless the Offer of Employment (currently known as IMM5802) came through the Employer Portal. This could mean that the department would have to submit a new complete a new Foreign Visitor Category Assessment ( FVCA) and repeat the entire process again, causing delays and duplicated work for all staff involved in this process and for the foreign national.
