Academic Staff Hires and Rehires

As you are aware, academic compensation negotiations for the 2015/2016 & 2016/2017 years are still pending and the across-the-board increase and increment rates for academic appointments will remain unknown until negotiations are complete. The following process outlines our recommendations for hire and rehire appointments for the July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017 Academic Year.


For all academic staff, please refer to last year’s communication regarding Salary Processing in the Absence of a Compensation Settlement with the AASUA.

For any hires of CONTINUING academic staff, do not make any reference to the negotiated settlement.

For CAST, SOTS or TRAS hire or rehire appointments effective July 1, 2016 or later, we advise the following process:
  1. For hires and rehires, use the appointment letter templates in the forms cabinet with the adjusted phrase of "subject to negotiations".
  2. For hires, use the 2014/2015 salary scale on both the appointment letter and the e/PAF.
  3. For rehires, use their 2014/2015 salary rate on both the appointment letter and the e/PAF (regardless of whether they were eligible for an increment in 2015/16 and/or 2016/17).
  4. If the appointment is Rehire with Merit, please indicate in the comments of the ePAF/PAF the number of increments awarded.
Employment Services will be amending all salary information once a Compensation Settlement is reached with the AASUA.
