Starting November 10, 2016, individuals who hold dual citizenship (with Canada and another country) will no longer be able to use their foreign passport to enter or re-enter Canada by air*. Instead, they must show proof of Canadian citizenship.

We recently communicated that as of September 29, 2016, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will make it mandatory for foreign nationals to hold valid electronic travel authorizations (eTA's) or visitor visas (TRV's) before entering or re-entering Canada. IRCC has extended that date to November 9, 2016.

Sun Life, the University's academic and support staff benefits provider, has introduced a new travel assistance provider. Effective October 3, 2016, Allianz Global Assistance will be the provider of emergency out-of-country and out-of-province travel assistance services.

Recruitment Services will be holding a training session for RAD, the Recruitment and Advertising Database, on Friday, October 7, 2016. RAD is a tool that supports the front end of the recruitment process and engages departments in the posting and advertising process for academic and support staff competitions.

Foreign Nationals holding work permits should plan ahead to ensure their permits will remain up-to-date before travelling outside Canada. This is especially important before winter break, when on-line renewal process time increases.

Starting October 1, 2016, Alberta’s minimum wage will increase from $11.20 per hour to $12.20 per hour. Anyone that has a current appointment with rates applicable to the AB Employment Standards Code will automatically be updated in Peoplesoft to reflect the increase. In regard to the ratification of the 2016-18 Graduate Student Assistantship Collective Agreement, Human Resource Services has now applied all updates to HCM as well as smart forms. New appointments for September 1, 2016 and later can be processed as per the following guidelines.
