If an employee is moving from a support staff position into an academic position or vice versa, Human Resource Services recommends that you begin the new appointment on either the 1st or the 16th of the month if possible. This timing aligns with the semi-monthly pay period and helps to ensure a smooth transition.
Support and academic positions have different benefit and pension plans and switching an employee outside of a pay period creates challenges and unneeded work to reconcile the different plans.
