Renewing Work Permit Before Travelling Over Winter Break
To avoid possible disruption of employment and/or travel during the winter break, individuals holding work permits should be directed to plan ahead to ensure that their permits remain up-to-date. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) current processing time for on-line renewal of work permits is 84 calendar days. Contact immigration.services@ualberta.ca for more information.

Position Information Form Updated
The file format of the Position Information Form (PIF) has been changed and there is no longer a need to include combo codes (speed codes) with the form, however HRS processes related to position creation or updating remain the same.

Update to Academic Agreements
The APO Agreement, Faculty Agreement, FSO Agreement, Librarian Agreement, and Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement have been updated to reflect changes that were ratified in prior negotiations. This includes changes to copyright, ¼ step increments, collective bargaining, and arbitration. The agreements can be found at http://www.hrs.ualberta.ca/Agreements.
New Job Codes for GTA and GRA
In order to accurately reflect the Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) classifications, we are implementing new job codes effective September 1, 2017. HRS will work with departments that have already submitted eForms/Pay Action Forms for September 1 appointments to update the records with the appropriate job codes.

Increase to Minimum Wage
Starting October 1, 2017, Alberta’s minimum wage will increase from $12.20 per hour to $13.60 per hour. Anyone that has a current appointment with rates applicable to the AB Employment Standards Code will automatically be updated in Peoplesoft to reflect the increase.
