It is the responsibility of the department to ensure that Alberta Employment Standards and/or the terms of the Collective Agreement are followed to determine overtime. This includes ensuring that overtime is:
- authorized before it is worked, and that it is mutually agreeable to both Employer and the employee (except in cases of emergency);
- tracked, calculated and paid at the appropriate rates and schedule;
- calculated in the same manner where an employee has opted to take banked overtime as compensatory time off in lieu.
Overtime entitlements are described in detail in the Collective Agreement in
Article 6 (Part A, Operating) and
